Summary

Dunnensend is a blue-and-orange desert city-state governed through Dunnen rules and Mother-and-Father traditions. Its court and people have faced Arahuoa or Vulturemen conflict, green-dragon threats, fire demons, and extensive automaton infiltration, while preserving records of old Goliath history and Garadule’s past as a sphinx protector of the Dunnen People. The city’s Mother tradition channels healing through Igraine and flesh-crafting wands; it was betrayed and corrupted by The Mother, Betrayer. Dunnensend later became a major ally, providing troops, healers, transport, and cavalry for the party’s war effort.

Browning’s pre-Dome map preserves three stages of Dunnen displacement: Newdunen, the old home destroyed by Garadule; Olddun, an abandoned settlement; and Dunen Refugees, the later provided location that became Dunnensend.

Known Details

  • Dunnensend shone blue and orange, had a very Arabic style, and enforced rules against alcohol, spell writing, and worship of liar or darkness.
  • Newdunen was the old home of the Dunnen People and was destroyed by Garadule.
  • Olddun was an abandoned settlement of the Dunnen People.
  • Dunen Refugees was the location provided to the Dunnen People and later became Dunnensend.
  • The court included Father Hairless, the Hearth Master, the Huntsmistress, and Huntsman Indanyu, alongside Mother Egraine Brook.
  • Mother Egraine Brook, the Dunnensend Mother the party met, is distinct from The Mother, Betrayer. Day 27 Dunnensend context establishes that The Mother, Betrayer was also a Dunnen Mother, one who betrayed her people.
  • Dunnen Mother magic is linked to healing power, the goddess Igraine, and Flesh-Crafting Wands; The Mother, Betrayer appears to have corrupted that channel into Carnamancy.
  • Vulturemen or Arahuoa assassins, Haemia, fire demons, snake-lizard people, green dragon attacks, and a moving desert fort all threatened the city.
  • Automaton infiltrators included Agugu, a guard with a wife and five-year identity, and other guards; The Guilt said the whole place was riddled with automatons.
  • Sister Prowels in the Night held a box like Gelissa’s containing one of the Flesh-Crafting Wands, apparently the target of recent shop break-ins and Lortesh’s visit.
  • Dunnensend records and scholars preserve Goliath history, including city-building, Ashktioth, Tradesmalls, and old contact about 900 years ago; user clarification says Dunnensend is not directly connected to the Ashkelon / Tradesmalls / Goliath ancestral grounds cluster.
  • Garadule, known as Terror of the Sands, was once a Sphinx protector of the Dunnen People before being corrupted by consuming a void elemental.
  • The city and rulers supported the party in wars to come after Lortesh died.
  • Dunnensend later supplied 100 troops, 5 healers, transport, and 10 cavalry; its army killed a green dragon during the Brass City battle.
