manifestation
Envy
Summary
Envy is the manifested form of one of the emotions removed from the elves, also encountered as Lady Envy or an Elf Spirit. She is an active power behind the occupation of the mountain city near Hammerguard, the extraction network at Lostvein, and an army built through lamias, succubi, enthralled followers, and emotional manipulation. Envy can inhabit forms, influence dreams, and may have been contained in both Brutor Ruby Eye’s and Lady Evalina Hartwall’s minds. Groushin describes her as powerful but not a god, and therefore vulnerable if forced to manifest bodily. The notes sometimes blur Envy with Ennui, but this page treats Envy as a distinct removed-emotion manifestation rather than a spelling variant of Ennui.
Known Details
- Day 35 names Lady Envy as the boss of the llamia and places her near the side-note list of Pride, Lust, greed, wrath, envy, gluttony, and sloth.
- Day 36 records Wrath naming Envy alongside Wrath, Pride, and six others as nine little demons of Darkness.
- Day 43 says Wrath, Removed Elven Emotion, recorded there as Wrath, trapped Envy in Lady Evalina Hartwall’s head the same way Envy was in Ruby Eye’s.
- Day 57 says Brass City expected attack after its ruler left, but no attackers appeared, not even Envy.
- Day 59 confirms Envy’s active control around Belburn and Lostvein: Bellburners pay her “tithes” or “gifts,” and she had taken over the kobold mines.
- Lady Evalina Hartwall, whose buried dragon form lies beneath Belburn’s town hall, is one of Envy’s enforcers, aligning the Day 36 Belburn encounter with the Day 59 town-hall rumour.
- Day 60 reveals Lostvein as an extraction site shipping copper, iron, jade, amethyst, and other materials to a dwarven mountain forge for Envy’s army. A quartermaster tells Dirk that Envy tried to take over another dwarven city and was beaten off: “she cross. That’s why she made the army.”
- Day 60 says Envy was not present at Lostvein; the Noxia Countess worked adjacent to her and treated Lady Hartwall as an incapacitated Envy-aligned collector or agent.
- Days 61-62 follow the party along the road toward Envy’s mountain or dwarven forge route, where the forges are running. Day 62 identifies the guardian’s Elf Spirit controller of Hammerguard as Envy.
- Day 63 resistance testimony places Envy in an occupied mountain city near Hammerguard. Copper says Envy enthrals directly and through emotional manipulation, inhabits forms, influences dreams, and is difficult to locate. This remains resistance testimony.
- Copper says Envy is fixated on affronts to her image, name, and demanded worship, allegedly exterminating a family for retaining a Stolchar statue. The party therefore considered a Wrath statue or bust as a lure.
- Groushin says Envy builds power through lamias and succubi, but is not a god and would be vulnerable if she manifested bodily. This is Groushin’s theological interpretation.
