Ailith Icefang

Summary

Ailith Icefang, often referred to as Icefang or the Ancient, is a white dragon connected to Rimewatch, memory tampering, Ruby Eye’s orbs, Hartwall, visions, and the battle near Highden. He and Lady Evalina Hartwall are the parents of Eliana and Lady Kalissa Hartwall.

Known Details

  • Day 4 news reported that the Ancient had awoken, and that slumber sages were trying to interpret what that meant. This refers to Icefang as the Ancient.
  • On Day 24, the party teleported toward Icefang but landed 24 miles away, walked for six hours, then remembered they could message him with a stone. Icefang found them at 21:00 as a very old dragon with cataract eyes and arctic hares amid his scales.
  • Icefang had been coming to see the party, but the messages had not come through. The notes record him discussing visions as having a likely outcome that “tends to lessen” when the visions are sent. The wording is terse, so it is unclear whether he meant the likelihood, the severity, or some other aspect of the outcome.
  • Icefang said he had tried to help Dirk’s people with Hartwall and needed help with the prisons. The vision or warning concerned the ice prison near Rimewatch, the shimmery prison, the black spider thing, a two-headed green dragon, the pirate, an Excellence, and Browning still in the tower; it did not identify an Icefang prison.
  • Day 36’s Grand Towers orb showed Icefang in human form in a snow-covered room while others said the paysoil would not work without him and that they could not let him be entombed under snow.
  • On Day 38, during a mental meeting, Icefang appeared as an elderly gentleman and showed a memory of shouting at Browning before a dark elf dropped an ear grub into his ear. He said he never would have dropped a rope, was glad to be sane before the end, and said the party needed to right the wrongs. He also said the Barrier was a good thing but too many sacrifices had been made.
  • Later on Day 38, a massive frost dragon burst from a black hole during the Highden battle, seized the skeletal dragon, called Hartwall My Child, crashed through the Barrier, and was retrieved by a water elemental. Cardonal planned to bury Icefang near Snowsorrow.
  • Day 42 copper-dragon history names Icefang, also noted as Ailith, near her boy and Snowsorrow. It also says Ice Fury was about thirty to forty years older than the copper dragon.
  • Day 43 says Lady Kalissa Hartwall remembered Icefang more clearly, that he cared for her, and that he and Lady Kalissa Hartwall assaulted Peridita while Icefang was starting to lose his mind.
  • Day 44 has Ailith Icefang contact Eliana, warn that everything would fall apart, that Dad would be mad, that humans were getting ideas above their station, and that the gods would take over Snowserene.
  • Day 44’s future vision showed that if Browning acted there would be broken tower fields, burning blue, black, green, and red dragons, hidden settlements, and destructive elementals.
  • Day 47’s Hartwall-child tea-party labels, read with the later Icefang/Hartwall family revelations, identify Uncle Leeg as Icefang.
  • Day 57 vision showed Icefang at a round table with five wizards, Hannah, and angry Lady Evalina Hartwall / Mama Hartwall holding the blue ball and saying the work had to stop.
  • Day 57 Lord Bleakstorm said Icefang’s spirit was still in the dome because Icefang died there and asked the party to free it.
  • Day 57 Attabre said Eliana was Icefang’s daughter as well as Attabre’s, that Icefang gave them all vision, got Lady Kalissa Hartwall out, and then fell to slumber.
  • The Day 57 revelations establish that Icefang is the white dragon father of both Eliana and Lady Kalissa Hartwall, with Lady Evalina Hartwall as their mother.
  • Day 58’s white-dragon history explains Eliana’s connection to Attabre: Anadreste, one of Attabre’s sphinx children, sacrificed herself into the white dragons, so white dragons and their descendants carry her trace.
